PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the weight and the rotary inertia by providing a plurality of sections in the axial direction including at least one metallic section and one nonmetallic section. SOLUTION: The motor shaft 1 has both metallic and nonmetallic sections and it is provided with an end metal fitting 3 secured to a tubular body 7 made of a composite material at the coupling part 5. The motor shaft 1 is assembled by pressing the end metal fitting 3, held appropriately by a rod made of a composite material being inserted through the center of the tubular body 7, against one end of the tubular body 7. The end metal fitting 3 comprises a stem part provided with a plurality of segments having generally different outside diameter, and an end part tapering at an angle of about 30 deg. against the axis of the stem part and having a plurality of flat cut facets engaging the coupling part of the body. According to the structure, the weight and the rotary inertia of the motor shaft can be reduced.
