PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect even a minute leak with high sensitivity by making an inspection agent contain an oil-soluble dye of not larger than a specified particle size and a white fine powder by a specific weight ratio. SOLUTION: 0.1-5 wt.% of an oil-soluble dye having a particle size not larger than 10μm and 5-70 wt.% of a white fine powder are contained, to make the agent a water-based dispersion type agent for inspecting oil leak. The inspection agent is applied to an inspection body. If oil leaks, the dried white fine powder sucks the oil by the capillary phenomenon, dissolves the fine, uniformly dispersed oil-soluble dye and forms an indication pattern of dark color on the white coat film. When the particle size of the oil-soluble dye exceeds 10μm, the oil-soluble dye becomes hard to dissolve in the leaking oil of a minute amount. When the oil-soluble dye is added by smaller than 0.1 wt.%, coloration performance becomes poor. If the dye is added by over 5 wt.%, a point of the leak is difficult to distinguish from a background. The white fine powder is better to have high whiteness. The dried film is deteriorated in whiteness and hard to distinguish if the powder is added by smaller than 5 wt.%, and a viscosity of the dispersion liquid is increased to worsen the coating properties if the powder is contained over 70 wt.%.
