POLYMER COMPOSITE MATERIAL AND PROCESS FOR PREPARING THE SAME

A process for preparing a polymer composite material by melt-kneading an organic-modified clay with a polymer by means of a kneader. The melt-kneading is carried out under such a condition that the average value (P'ave) and the maximum value (P'max) of the reduced resin pressure P' falls within the following respective ranges in at least one region filled with the product of kneading of the organic-modified clay and the polymer in the kneader, and the total quantity (A) of shear and/or the total shear energy (E) per unit volume in all the regions filled with the product of kneading fall within the following respective ranges: P'ave >/= 5x10<4> (Pa); P'max >/= 1x10<5> (Pa); 10<5> ; 10<10> (Pa) (Pa). According to the above process, the organic-modified clay can be finely dispersed in a thermoplastic resin. The polymer composite material prepared by the above process can be molded by injection molding, extrusion, press molding or the like into a polymer composite material molding comprising an organic-modified clay finely dispersed in a matrix of a polymer.
