PURPOSE: A karaoke apparatus for measuring a quantity of exercise and a method thereof are provided to alert an energy consumption while a user sings a song by using a strength of a microphone input signal, a sound inputted time from the microphone and a user's sound height. CONSTITUTION: In detecting a starting signal of a song, a CPU(Central Processing Unit)(1) checks a check time of microphone signal. In existing a microphone input signal, a sound pressure, a sound input time and a key value are calculated by reading sound signal data. A system memory(3) accumulates the sound pressure, the sound input time and the key value at an interval of the microphone signal check time. In the end of the song, a consumed amount of calories is calculated from the accumulated data. The consumed amount is displayed on a monitor(9) through a screen display control unit(10). The accumulated data is erased to measure the next exercise quantity.
