PURPOSE: A phase change disk recording/playback device and a method thereof are provided to increase efficiency of an optical fiber tip and to keep the tip regular by using a near field. CONSTITUTION: A phase change disk recording/playback device includes a phase change disk, the first/second optical sources and an optical fiber tip for transmitting incident/reflected laser beam. An objective lens is mounted between the phase change disk and the second optical source to focus laser beam. An aperture is formed at the end of the optical fiber tip to generate near field effect. The first optical source and optical fiber tip are positioned against the second optical source centering on the phase change disk. To record data on the phase change disk, laser beam of the second optical source transmits the disk and laser beam of the first optical source passes through the optical fiber tip to raise temperature of phase change recording material up to a melting point. An amorphous phase is obtained by rapid cooling of the material to record the data. On playing back the data, playback signals generated by laser beam of the optical sources are used.
