A speed governor (1) measures identified objects using a radar detector. A computer assigns an acceleration gradient for each measured value (5) of each object and for each object to be measured the acceleration gradients of the measured values are combined and the added acceleration gradient for the object selected as target object capable of being output (11, 13). An independent claim is included for a procedure for the speed control of a motor vehicle.
