PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a new low temperature denitration catalyst having a long service life for effectively denitrating the gas containing nitrogen oxides at remarkably lower temperature in comparison with a usual vanadium-based catalyst, and at a low temperature in comparison with a normal comparison dioxide catalyst and an electrolytic manganese dioxide catalyst. SOLUTION: This low temperature denitration catalyst comprises a modified manganese oxide that is based on MnO2 and obtained by partially removing MnO from a starting manganese oxide containing Mn3O4 or Mn2O3. The modified manganese oxide contains 4-15 wt.% MnO, 2-10 wt.% Fe2O3 and 0.1-0.7 wt.% alkaline metal in terms of Na and has 0.5-150 μm average particle size and 0.1-0.7 g/ml bulk density. |
