A steel foam product is made in a system that can be created by retrofitting existing systems, in order to provide air jets and rapid quenching of the steel. A continuing application of air jets and other cooling devices creates a skin on the steel that traps substantial amounts of air bubbles resulting in a foam-like product. Informed into panels, these products can be used in a variety of new applications in which solid steel panels are inappropriate. The overall system and process are far less expensive in any conventional systems for creating light-weight metal structures. |
