<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lathe capable of performing an accurate, precise machining for a workpiece. <P>SOLUTION: A first cutting for the workpiece W is performed with a tool 41, and subsequently, a second cutting for the workpiece W is performed while moving the tool 41 in the X-axis direction. The shift amount dy between the center height of the tool 41 and the central line of the workpiece W is calculated based on a first diameter value r1, a second diameter value r2, and the moving distance of the tool 41 between both cuttings which are actually measured after the first and second cutting.
