An improved bearing system for a flier (2) thread winding machine, has the flier shaft (3) supported between two axially spaced bearings (4, 5). The inner races of the bearings are located in a common inner sleeve (6) while the outer rings (7, 8) provide the outer bearing supports. A sleeve (17, 25) between the outer rings completes the bearing support.
