A method of cooling pig cast iron includes forced cooling billets of pigs in moulds in a casting machine, unloading and positioning the pigs of cast iron for their additional forced cooling, additional forced cooling the pigs. The forced cooling the billets of pigs in the moulds is conducted to the temperature of 820-900 °C. The pigs for additional forced cooling are located in a closed container. The additional forced cooling of pigs is conducted to the temperature of 150-200 °C by transmission of gas through the mass of pigs, the gas heated at contact with the pigs is then directed for recovery.
