PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control the power, using the light reflected from this medium on the recording/reproducing operation of the optical medium having two or more recording layers. SOLUTION: Reflected light from this optical medium is detected and the transmissivity to the recording layer is obtained by calculation from a light emitting power value and the reflected light, then the power is controlled in accordance with the obtained transmissivity.
