PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotation angle detection device and a failure detection method of the same which detect failure in signal paths or the like.SOLUTION: The rotation angle detection device comprises: a first transmission unit which is composed of an X code inversion unit 22X and an X data transmission unit 23X; a second transmission unit which is composed of a Y code inversion unit 22Y and a Y data transmission unit 23Y. A rotation angle information calculation unit 24 calculates information about a rotation angle of a rotating body on the basis of output from the first transmission unit and the second transmission unit. A storage unit 26 stores output of the rotation angle information calculation unit 24 at predetermined time. A failure diagnosis unit 27 detects failure in the rotation angle detection device by comparing information based on the output from the rotation angle information calculation unit 24 at the predetermined time that is stored in the storage unit 26 with information based on output from the rotation angle information calculation unit 24 at time different from the predetermined time.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
