The permanent magnet rotor (12) is supported on two bearings (16) within a sealed non-magnetic cylindrical compartment (18), fixed by its flanged end (24) to a pump casing (26). The pump's rotating member (28) is connected to one end (14) of the motor drive shaft. The latter's other end is integral with the supporting structure (34) of the driving magnets (36) of the magnetic coupling (22). The coupling's driven magnets (38), rotating within the driving magnets, are separated from them by the suitably formed end wall (22) of the compartment, and are mounted on the end of an external shaft (32) carrying 5 internally interconnected slip-rings. 3 incomplete rings (66) are connected (70) via brushgear (68) to the stator, which encircles the compartment wall opposite the rotor and carries 3 windings spaced at 120 deg. The remaining two, complete, rings (60) are connected via brushgear (62) to the power source (64). While the coupling's driving member employs permanent magnets, the driven magnets are, opt., electrically excited.
