PURPOSE:To perform stable electric discharge machining operation at high machining speed, by holding an electric discharge machining electrode with a magnetic chuck, dividing a magnetic pole of the magnetic chuck into many magnetic poles and applying the locally moving magnetic field to a machining gap. CONSTITUTION:An electric discharge machining electrode 2 is held by a magnetic chuck 1, and many divided magnetic poles 2A, 3B, 3C... are provided in a lower side of the magnetic chuck 1. Coils 5A, 5B, 5C... are wound to each magnetic poles to generate the magnetic field. Though voltage of a power source 6 is on-off operated by switching elements 7A, 7B, 7C... and applied to the coil, each of the switching elements is controlled by a ring counter 8, and the magnetic field becomes the moving magnetic field and is applied to a machining gap through the electrode 2. In this way, the machining gap is widened, thus stable electric discharge machining operation can be performed at high machining speed. |
