An apparatus for guiding defective products, especially filling material, out of a conveyor belt has a guide track on which a plurality of ejector elements are arranged in the ready position, in the manner of a magazine, and are accelerated as required, for example during the passage of a defective product through a control point, in such a manner that they make contact with the defective product, with correlation of position, and push it onto an adjoining deflector belt. This concept, in conjunction with electronic control and the use of electromagnetic drive systems, such as for example linear motors, allows a deflection system which operates virtually without the use of fault-prone mechanical components.
