The invention relates to a process for preparing isotropic ferrite powders having a spinel structure of the general formula MeFe2O4, in which Me = aMn + bNi + cZn + dCo + eFe(II), the atomic mass ratios a, b, c, d and e each being from 0 to 1 and their sum being equal to 1, by mixing one or more Me salts, iron(III) chloride with alkali metal carbonate, heating the mixture obtained to a temperature of from 800 DEG C to 1200 DEG C and isolating the isotropic ferrite formed in the process by leaching with water.
