PURPOSE:To perform printing with good balance as a whole by providing means for previously storing the printing position interval of character corresponding to the combination of continuous characters and constructing such that the printing is performed with the printing position interval stored in the storing means corresponding to the combination of continuous characters in the input data. CONSTITUTION:A printing position control circuit 2 controls the interval between the characters to be printed. A comparison character buffer 3 stores the output from an input character buffer 1 sequentially and temporarily stores a character row comprising two characters. A printing position adjusting memory 4 stores the information for setting the interval of character based upon two adjoining characters and the content of said information is compared with the content of the comparison character buffer 3 for every input datum by means of a comparing circuit 5. If the comparison results coincide, a character interval information corresponding to said combination of two characters is fed to a control circuit 6. The control circuit 6 can know the movement of a printing head after the printing of a first character is finished on the basis of said signal and feeds a signal concerning the movement.
