PURPOSE:To obtain a high-damping alloy having high yield strength, high damping capacity, and superior castability, by specifying a composition consisting of Mn, Be, and Cu. CONSTITUTION:The high-damping alloy having high yield strength has a composition consisting of, by weight, 40-70% Mn, 0.3-1% Be, usual impurities, and the balance Cu. In this alloy, while maintaining superior damping capacity of Mn-Cu alloys, castability is improved and mechanical properties are also improved. In the above composition, Mn improves damping capacity in the above compositional range but, when its content exceeds the upper limit, Mn oxidation is increased and this alloy is made difficult to be used for utility alloy. When Be is added by >=0.2%, oxidation of the molten Mn-Cu alloy is prevented and castability is improved and, moreover, yield strength and tensile strength are remarkably improved but, when Mn content exceeds 1%, economical disadvantage is brought about.
