In known closing devices, there is arranged on the front edge of the engine bonnet a bar which, in the closed position, is in engagement with a pivotable hook in the radiator reinforcement. Particularly at high speeds, it is not possible to prevent the engine bonnet from lifting off or from rattling. In the new closing device, an elastic connection between the engine bonnet and radiator cowl is achieved by means of suction cups which, in the closed position, bear on the radiator reinforcement, a suction pump being provided for sucking up the suction cups. The suction cups possess integrated buffers which allow an exact setting of the distance between the engine bonnet and radiator reinforcement. Closing device, especially for passenger cars.
