PURPOSE:To increase substantial display gradations without shortening an access time by making a G display to which the resolving sensitivity of the human eye is high and parts of B and R displays to which the resolving sensitivity is not so high different in gradation display. CONSTITUTION:A scan signal for a p-gradation display is supplied to Y conductive electrodes..., Ym-2, Ym-1, Ym+1, Ym+2,... connected to individual discharge electrodes 6, 6,... for discharge cells 12 and 11 for G and R and discharge cells 13 and 12 for B and G including discharge cells 12 for the G display. A scan signal for a (q)-gradation display smaller than (p) gradations is supplied to Y conductive electrodes..., Ym-3, Ym, Ym+3,... connected to individual discharge electrodes 6, 6,... of discharge cells 11 and 13 for R and B which do not include the discharge cells 12 for the G display. Consequently, an access frequency is reduced at a ratio of three conductive electrode groups to one conductive electrode group and (p) and (q) are selected properly corresponding to the resolution of the human eye to make a gradation display with good R, G, and B balance. |
