PURPOSE:To obtain a photovoltaic element which can maintain its high initial characteristics for a long period even in a severe environment and can be mass- produced at a high yield. CONSTITUTION:In the element constituted by successively forming a light reflecting layer 102, light reflection increasing layer 103, n-type layer 104 composed of a non-single crystal semiconductor material containing at least silicon atoms, i-type layer 105, p-type layer 106, and transparent electrode 107 on a conductive substrate 101, the layer 102 is composed principally of Al and Si atoms and contains at least one kind of atoms selected from among oxygen atoms, nitrogen atoms, carbon atoms, and alkali metal atoms. |
