PURPOSE:To obtain a dye compound which is useful for obtaining an ink excellent in fixability, stability and safety and capable of forming an image having a high density, being clear, not suffering from indefinite or irregular blurring, and being excellent in water resistance on plain paper by selecting a specified dye compound. CONSTITUTION:A dye compound of formula I [wherein phi is a COOM-substituted phenyl or naphthyl group; R is -N(H)m(CH2CH2OH)2-m; X is a bivalent organic group, desirably a group selected from among groups of formulas II and III and -NH(CH2)pNH- (wherein p is 2-6); k, m and n are each 0 or 1; and M is Na, K or ammonium] (e.g. a compound of formula IV). |
