PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an ink jet recording image having high image quality based on an image signal obtained by converting the energy of electromagnetic wave photoelectrically. SOLUTION: In an ink jet recording method and ink jet recording apparatus based on an image signal obtained by converting the energy of electromagnetic wave generated in correspondence with an object, recording is performed such that the characteristic curve representing the variation in the optical density D of an image formed on a recording medium with respect to the logarithmical value of the energy intensity E of electromagnetic wave becomes a monotone increasing function and recording is performed with respective γin a plurality of ranges of energy intensity E. Recording is performed using a plurality of inks of different optical density for respective ranges of energy intensity E. Number of inks of different optical density and gray scale required for obtaining an image of high image quality are also determined.
