PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a food product and a cosmetic which have high antioxidant action and are safely effective for skin roughening and the like. SOLUTION: The seeds of Malva verticillata, a plant belonging to Malvaceae, are extracted with a solvent and the extract is used as an active ingredient. This extract is appropriately formulated together with other liquid oil, solid oil, activating agents, moisturizing agent and medicines to give various forms of food products and cosmetics. The extract of this plant in Malvaceae is prepared by extracting the seeds with water or a solvent such as ethanol, when necessary, the extract is freeze-dried and used in the form of powder. The extract is stronger in its antioxidant action than vitamin E known as a natural antioxidant and substantially equal to that of dibutylhydroxytoluene as a synthetic antioxidant. Since the seeds of this plant have been used as a biuretic, a laxative and a lactation agent for the medicinal purposes and as a food product for a long period of time, there is no problem on the safety. |
