PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To execute uniform photoirradiation over the surface of the light emitting area of the backlight of a liquid crystal display device and to enhance luminance. SOLUTION: As for this display device 12; a light reflection sheet 9 is arranged on one principal plane of a light transmission plate 6 provided with a fluorescent lamp 2 on its end face, and a light diffusing plate 10 is arranged on the other principal plane side of the plate 6, and further the backlight 13 obtained by covering the fluorescent lamp 2 with an optical reflector 8 and the liquid crystal panel 3 arranged on the plate 10 of the backlight 13 are housed in a housing 5. The liquid crystal panel 3 is provided with a display area (c) having nearly the same shape as a light emitting area (b), and a light shielding sheet 14 is arranged over the periphery of the light emitting area (c) on the end face where the fluorescent lamp 2 of the plate 6 is not disposed and the other principal plane. |
