An apparatus for transferring film from a first to a second process stage, comprising a carriage (6) which by a motor drive (8) can be displaced on guide rails between a receiving position and a dispensing position. The carriage comprises a pair of mating rollers (12, 14) engaging and pulling forward the sheet material by frictional engagement, and a control means (26) for the selective opening of the gap between the cooperating rollers. The apparatus further comprises a support means (21, 22) for supporting the sheet material relative to the carriage while the roller gap is opened in a manner so that the sheet material may be pushed through the roller gap. The invention further comprises a process for transferring film. The apparatus serves as a buffer and it allows a rapid and gentle transfer of the film. |
