A precision boring bit which produces precision bores in one operation has two cutting edges (7,8) at the cutting head and with two swarf clearing grooves (6a,6b) running axially on opposite sides of the drill shank. The shank is profiled by convex ribs whose center sections (11a) provide a small area contact with the wall of the bore to support the bit and to buff the wall. The convex profiles are flanked by cut edges (9,10) and the profiles on opposite sides of the bit are offset by half a profile.
