The plate (1) surface to be coated is pretreated before coating to achieve a surface tension of 34-44mN/m, preferably 42mN/m. Preferred Features: Pretreatment comprises a non-aggressive chemical, mechanical and/or electrical method, e.g. corona discharge, low temperature plasma and/or flame treatment. Other pretreatments include the use of special polymer compounds and/or additives, varying the molecular weight or minimizing contamination, especially during plate casting or extrusion. The vapor is applied by either thermal metallization, sputtering or ion plasma methods. Non-treated areas are masked off with film before treatment and the film removed afterwards.
