Method for waterproof rivet fastening

A method for riveting together flat sheets without creating leakage sites and without special sealing inserts has the sheets punched with a hole which is narrower than the rivet. The sheets are pressed around the hole to form a lip (26) causing the hole to widen for unimpeded insertion of the rivet. The rivet is secured and at the same time the lip is pressed flat causing the edges of the sheets to be pressed into the shank of the rivet to form a watertight seal. One end of the rivet is fitted with a flat head while the other end is rimmed over by the riveting tool to secure the fitting.
