For purposes of sealing, the boundary layers (9, 10, 11, 12) of the filler element (8) and/or the projecting zones (3, 4) are heatable from outside to a temperature which lies at or above the compressive softening point of the boundary layers, but lies below the compressive softening points of the channel sections (1, 2). The boundary layers are subjected to a force which presses them against the projecting zones (3, 4) or the filler element (8).
