To control a long-distance heating system, a heat exchanger is in the primary circuit of the remote heater and a secondary circuit is linked to the point of use. The flow vol. in the primary circuit depends on the vol. and temp. of the hot water taken by the user. Measures are taken to give a nonlinear control characteristic to vary the control characteristic for low flow vols. at the secondary side against the control characteristic for high secondary side flow vols., to reduce control swings, through an opening (16) in the valve (13) of a throttle (3) in the secondary circuit of a heat exchanger.
