PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To finish the surface of the sensitizer coating film of a photoreceptor drum to a smooth surface, free of fine rugggedness. SOLUTION: A photosensitive drum 1 obtained by coating the surface of a rough tube with a sensitizer is allowed to stand in an atmosphere of vapor 21 of a solvent 2 that dissolves the sensitizer and the surface of the sensitizer coating film is dissolved with the vapor 21 and finished to a smooth surface free from fine ruggedness. The concentration of the vapor 21 is preferably adjusted to 0.1% or higher. The photosensitive drum 1 is allowed to stand in the atmosphere, while keeping the axis of the drum 1 horizontal and turning the drum 1 on its axis. The dissolved sensitizer spreads over the entire peripheral surface of the drum 1, accordingly the occurrence of ununiformity in the thickness of the sensitizer coating film is prevented.
