PURPOSE: A method for optimizing gain by zones on a disk using Ziegler-Nichols is provided to optimize gain by each zone sectioned on the disk, in a hard disk drive, so as to improve a servo control response characteristic. CONSTITUTION: A specific zone on a disk sectioned with many zones is set(42), and gain is set(44). Whether a defect is reduced is checked(46). If a defect is not reduced, a gain factor or a Km is changed(52) and the 44-step is returned. If a defect is reduced, a corresponding set gain value is recorded(48). A zone is changed(50), and the 44-step is returned. Accordingly, a gain value indicating a minimum defect is set as an optimum gain value in a corresponding zone, to obtain an optimized gain value by each zone sectioned on the disk.
