PURPOSE: A method for preventing paper jam in a credit card reader that includes a printer, is provided to extend the time for generating a motor driving signal so as to release the jammed paper automatically, when the print paper is jammed in the printer while it prints transaction details on the paper. CONSTITUTION: A certain time period is set in a register of a RAM where a print time period is set(S1). The print paper is backed away(S2). When the end of the print paper is detected(S3), a print control part outputs a paper advance signal to a print paper driving part, and then prints the transaction details on the paper(S4). If the end of the print paper is not detected, the print control part recognizes that the print paper is caught in the printer, and then decreases the set print time one by one(S5). If the remainder of the set print time is zero, a control signal for doubling print paper driving power is applied to the print paper driving motor(S7). If the number of times by which the print paper driving power is increased is more than a predetermined number(X)(S8), the motor is stopped and then a print paper caught state is noted(S9).
