PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a secondary battery, having high energy density and moreover with assured short-circuit prevention of electrodes. SOLUTION: This secondary battery comprises a rectangular and planar battery element sealed in vacuum in a case 4, the battery element having a laminated structure of a positive electrode 1, an electrolyte layer and a negative electrode 2, the electrolyte layer containing a porous spacer 3, where a nonfluid electrolyte exists at least in a contact area between the electrolyte layer and the positive electrode 1 and in a contact area between the electrolyte layer and the negative electrode 2. The size of the spacer 3 is larger than the sizes of the positive electrode 1 and the negative electrode 2, and the thermal contraction factor of the spacer 3 in a direction parallel to the long side of the spacer 3 is smaller than that in the direction parallel to the short side. |
