The invention relates to a method and a measuring device for measuring the consistency of a web (112) on a former of a paper machine, the web (112) being in contact with a wire (114). In the measurement, microwave radiation (122) is transmitted to the web (112) by directing the microwave radiation (122) to that surface of the web (112) which is opposite to the contact surface of the wire and the web (112), and a measurement frequency range is used, in which the web (112) attenuates the interference radiation penetrating the web (112). Microwave radiation is also transmitted to a reference measurement, and the intensity of the radiation reflected in the reference measurement is measured. The consistency of the web (112) is measured by comparing the intensity of the microwave radiation (124) reflected from the web with the intensity of the radiation reflected in the reference measurement. |
