A system and method are disclosed for covering a stented heart valve prosthesis (10) with biological tissue (70, 72, 74, 76, 78), such as pericardium. The prosthesis (10) includes a stent (14) that is covered with a fabric material (52). A heart valve (12) is mounted within the stent (14), such as by sutures securing the heart valve (12) to the fabric covering (52) . One or more sheets of biological tissue (70, 72, 74, 76, 78) are applied to the stented prosthesis (10) so as to cover all exteriorly exposed areas of t he fabric material (52).
