PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress excessive noise by detecting presence/absence of paper sheets and the position of the paper sheets so as not to feed paper when there is no paper sheets, without increasing the number of sensors. SOLUTION: This sheet carrier device is provided with a paper presence/ absence detector 11 for detecting the presence/absence of the paper sheets on a paper feed plate 2, a paper position detecting means 9 detecting the position of the paper sheets carried from the paper feed plate 2, a sensor 10 converting the physical contact with the paper presence/absence detector 11 or the paper position detector 9 into electrical signals, a disk 13 and a lever 12 comprising a changeover means selectively changing over between the paper presence/ absence detector 11 and the paper position detector 9 into a usable state, etc. This device is characterized in comprising that, before feeding the paper, the presence/absence of the paper is detected by the sensor 10 using the paper presence/absence detector 11 and, during carrying the paper, the position of the paper sheets is detected by the sensor 10 using the paper position detector 9.
