PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a barrier rib forming method which can stably form barrier ribs having a desired shape. SOLUTION: After a DFR 16 is laminated on a barrier rib material 15, the DFR 16 is exposed to the ultraviolet beams using a photo mask 17, and the exposed parts of the DFR are removed by development. The portions of the barrier rib material 15 uncovered with a resist pattern 21 are abraded by sandblast, and after the resist pattern 21 is removed, it is fired. Through above processes, barrier ribs 4 are formed so as to have a predetermined shape. The barrier rib material 15 contains low melting point glass such as PbO, B2 O3 or SiO2 , a high melting point filler such as Al2 O3 , a binder, a solvent and a high melting point filler such as TiO2 particles by 2 wt.%. When the DFR 16 is irradiated with the ultraviolet light 19 having a wavelength of 365 nm or so, the reflectance of the barrier rib material 15 is nearly 30%.
