PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving method and a driving device for an escalator capable of improving power transmitting efficiency, miniaturizing the whole of a device and reducing noise, and to provide the escalator using the same. SOLUTION: The escalator driving device 53 is provided with friction plates 43 provided to be projected downward from foot steps 41 of the escalator 31, a pair of friction wheels 49 and 49 for pinching the friction plate 43, and a motor 51 for rotating the pair of friction wheels.
