PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell system capable of purging efficiently without providing a component such as a deoxygenating device.

SOLUTION: The fuel cell system comprises a fuel cell stack which has a plurality of unit cells of fuel cell including a separator having at least a gas passage and piping for introducing fuel gas and air to the fuel cell stack. A transition metal is arranged at least at a part of an anode side gas passage and the piping of the fuel cell, and an air supply means for supplying air to the anode side at the power generation stop of the fuel cell is provided.
