PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new zirconium compound useful as an electrophotographic toner. SOLUTION: Tetravalent zirconium compounds expressed by general formula (1) are provided. In the formula, R<SB>1</SB>represents a quaternary carbon, methine or methylene; Y represents a cyclic structure bonded with saturated or unsaturated bonds binding to the fourth position and the fifth position; R<SB>2</SB>and R<SB>3</SB>each independently represents an alkyl, an alkoxy, a halogen, H or the like; R<SB>4</SB>represents H or an alkyl; l is 0 or an integer of 3-12; m is an integer of 1-20: n is 0 or an integer of 1-20; o is 0 or an integer of 1-4: p is 0 or an integer of 1-4; q is 0 or an integer of 1-3; r is an integer of 1-20 and s is 0 or an integer of 1-20, wherein all R<SB>3</SB>s are not H at the same time when q is 0.
