PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correct skew with a high degree of accuracy, without employing any special complicated device constitution. SOLUTION: A sheet carrying device comprises: resist rollers 201, 202 rotary driven independently from each other; a first sensor pair 701 disposed near the upstream of the resist rollers 201, 202 in a sheet carrying direction; a second sensor pair 702 disposed near the downstream of the resist rollers 201, 202 in the sheet carrying direction; and a controller 1 determining a skew amount of a sheet based on a detection result of the first sensor pair 701, controlling the drive of the resist rollers 201, 202 independently from each other to carry the sheet to decrease the determined skew amount and carrying the sheet, determining the skew amount of the sheet based on a detection result of the second sensor pair 702, and controlling the drive of the resist rollers 201, 202 independently from each other to carry the sheet to decrease the determined skew amount.
