A skin whiting and anti-oxidative composition containing Sterculia lychnophora hance extract is provided to hinder melanogenesis in melanocyte, to ensure excellent antioxidant activity and to prevent cytotoxin. A skin whiting and anti-oxidative composition comprises Sterculia lychnophora hance extract which is extracted with a hot water extraction method by using C1-C3 lower alcohol or their mixture. The skin whiting and anti-oxidative composition comprises an organic solvent fraction which is obtained by extracting Sterculia lychnophora hance extract in organic solvent. The organic solvent is hexane, CHCl3 or ethylacetate.
