PURPOSE: A mobile telecommunication terminal and a method for dividing a background image by using the same are provided to protect the privacy of an individual by preventing the transmission of the background image when the user does not want to receive the background image. CONSTITUTION: A mobile telecommunication terminal comprises an image input section(128) for inputting image data of an object. A background image treating section(122) is provided to selectively divide the background image data and main image data which are inputted from the image input section(128). A codec section(110) is provided to output the image data by extracting the compression of the image data. The codec section(110) compresses the image data inputted from the image treating section(122) in a predetermined format by encoding the image data. A control section(104) encodes the image data through the codec section(110) and transmits the image data to an exterior by compressing the image data in a predetermined format. A displaying section is provided to display the image data.
