PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aerospace material (carbon fiber composite material) which shows lesser reduction in mass due to atomic oxygen attack and has excellent durability. SOLUTION: This composite material is an aerospace material consisting of a skeleton and a matrix formed in the surrounding space of the skeleton integrally with it, wherein: the skeleton consists essentially of carbon fiber bundles 3, silicon carbide and metallic silicon, the latter two of which are formed on the inside and/or outer periphery of each of the carbon fiber bundles 3; and the matrix consists essentially of silicon carbide and metallic silicon, or consists of silicon carbide the β-silicon carbide content of which is >=50%. Also, the composite material has 0.5-5% porosity and a bimodal pore size distribution. |
