[Also in Division H1] A sealed cylindrical electric cell has an open end of the cylindrical case sealed by a cover 3, the case having an integrally formed inwardly projecting shoulder having on its side nearer the open end a larger C-shaped cross-section toroid 25 open in a radially inwards direction, and a metal cover bounded by a toroidal marginal portion of relatively small C-shaped crosssection 23 disposed with the larger toroid and spaced therefrom by a sealant 27 held in a squeezed condition between and by the toroids. The seal is made by shaping the edge portion of the lid to form toroid 23, infilling toroid 23 and covering its exterior surface with a compressible sealant, positioning the cover and sealant in the open top of the case, and forming the case round the cover into the toroid 25 to squeeze the sealant between the toroids thereby sealing the cover to the container. |
