Swashplate-type axial-piston engine, the pistons of which are each supported against the swashplate by means of a sliding shoe, each sliding shoe having a sliding-shoe plate (10), and there being a holding-down plate (24) which has a bore (25) for each sliding shoe and which is located with the edge of the bore (25) opposite the edge of the sliding-shoe plate (10), the holding-down plate (24) being loaded by a prestressed spring (15), the force of which is transmitted to the holding-down plate (24) via a ring (22) having a surface in the form of a spherical cap, for the purpose of preventing needlessly high friction on the sliding shoes the ring (22) bearing against a stop (27) which is connected to the shaft (3) and which is so arranged that, when the ring (22) bears against the stop (27), the spacing between the swashplate (12) and the holding-down plate (24) is larger than the thickness of the sliding-shoe plates (10) by the amount of a predetermined small play. <IMAGE>
