The invention relates to a fuel injection nozzle with an outwardly opening nozzle needle, which has a head which comes into sealing contact with a seating on a mating surface of the needle carrier, and with a swirl chamber to which fuel can be admitted via essentially tangentially opening-out lines from a fuel space provided in the needle carrier and connected to a fuel pump. In order during ejection of the fuel to achieve an injection jet effectively fanned out by a swirling flow, the swirl chamber (13) and the lines (12) are to be arranged in the head (7) of the nozzle needle (5), the lines starting from the seating (8) of the head and allowing fuel to be admitted from the fuel space (16, 18) only when the nozzle needle is open. <IMAGE>
